Referee report

Peer-reviewing is a crucial aspect of scientific research which is only too rarely recognised or studied. A system of formal peer-review was put in place for the Royal Society journals in 1827 by a committee. Throughout the 19th century, however, Fellows had been writing reports on papers which they were assigned to.
