1862 Johnson by Huxley Jermyn S. Augt 62 1862 I do not think Dr Johnsons paper “On the distorted skulls &c” eligible for publication in the Philosophical Trans for the following reasons: I have little doubt that the carbonic & nitric acids contained in the soil are competent, as Dr Johnson supposes, to dissolve out more or less of the earthy salts contained in buried bones -: but it is another matter 1st whether the action of such acids has been an important agent in the distortion of the Wroxeter skulls and 2nd supposing the fact to be
