My dear Sir
Professor C. P. Smyth has sent me the inclosed Abstract of the tide-observations at Teneriffe (of which the details are in his 1<sup>st<sup>. volume). They had been withheld until he should have procured from Teneriffe a precise answer as to the meaning of "Astronomical Time", a caution which, I need not say, adds greatly to their value.
