                                somewhere - but I do not 
think Prof. Smyth enough of a 
geological observer nor sufficiently 
acquainted with the present state 
of the literature bearing on the 
theory of Craters of Elevation to 
entitle him to have this M.S. &
his theoretical assumptions in the pages of the Phil. Trans. es-
pecially as by far the greater part 
9/10ths of the whole is before the public in print 
already.
There is one fact mentioned at p.
12 of the M.S. which I think is omitted 
in the book & of which the author 
does not seem to be aware of the 
theoretical bearing & importance 
He describes a continuous &
unbroken sheet of lava which
