Letter from William Napier Shaw, 10 Moreton Gardens, Old Brompton Road, London, to Sir Archibald [Geikie]

think the Royal Society is really
responsible for the decision that
Mr Berucchi’s estimate of his
retaining fees was beyond its means
and we must put up with his
efforts to revenge himself as best
we can.
Still I feel it rather
hard to be made the whipping
boy of the situation because
in a weak moment I yielded to
the pressure put on me to undertake
what I knew must be a thankless task.
Yours sincerely
W.N. Shaw
