5 Change in weight of the lens in sodium chloride
solutions of various concentrations.

Ox lenses with and without capsules were
immersed in saline solutions of concentrations
ranging from 0.4% to 5%. The lenses in
capsules showed slight differences in the amount
of water taken up. Those in isotonic saline
gaining least, while those in stronger and
weaker solutions gained rather more. In the
case of the lenses without capsule, the differences
in the amount of water taken up were
rather more marked in the hypotonic solutions,
but the lenses in hypertonic solutions did not
gain more than those in isotonic.
