for the information of the Most Noble the
Governor in Council that on the 21 Instant,
an Eclipse of the Sun will take place, and
that it will become <u>Total<\u> on the track of
country extending from Tranquebar to Tellicherry.
The singular phenomena noticed at the last
<u>Total <\u> Eclipse of the Sun, which was observed
at <u>Turin <\u> by the Royal Astronomer of Green-
-wich rendered it desirable that the circumstances
attending these infrequent occurrences should
be narrowly watched; accordingly I have the
honor to request that I may be permitted to
proceed to Tranquebar on duty carrying
with me such Instruments as may be
necessary for this observation and not
being provided with an Assistant whose
intelligence would render his services
valuable
