
for the information of the Most Noble the Governor in Council that on the 21 Instant, an Eclipse of the Sun will take place, and that it will become <u>Total<\u> on the track of country extending from Tranquebar to Tellicherry. The singular phenomena noticed at the last <u>Total <\u> Eclipse of the Sun, which was observed at <u>Turin <\u> by the Royal Astronomer of Green- -wich rendered it desirable that the circumstances attending these infrequent occurrences should be narrowly watched; accordingly I have the honor to request that I may be permitted to proceed to Tranquebar on duty carrying with me such Instruments as may be necessary for this observation and not being provided with an Assistant whose intelligence would render his services valuable
