Referee's report by William Henry Flower, on four papers 'Description of teeth of a large extinct (marsupial ?) genus, Sceparnodon, Ramsay', 'Evidence of a large extinct monotreme (Echidna Ramsayi, Ow.) from the Wellington Breccia Cave, New South Wales', 'Evidence of a large extinct lizard (notiosaurus dentatus, Owen) from pleistocene deposit, new south wales, Australia' and 'Description of parts of a human skeleton from a pleistocene (palaeolithic) bed, Tilbury, Essex' by Richard Owen
Reference number: RR/9/231
Date: 28 February 1884
Description
'Description of teeth of a large extinct (marsupial ?) genus, Sceparnodon, Ramsay' recommended for publication in Philosophical Transactions.
'Evidence of a large extinct monotreme (Echidna Ramsayi, Ow.) from the Wellington Breccia Cave, New South Wales' not recommended for publication in Philosophical Transactions, as it 'seems to escape the author's memory' that a paper was already printed on this subject by Mr Krefft. An abstract could be printed in Proceedings, so long as the other author's work is cited.
'Evidence of a large extinct lizard (notiosaurus dentatus, Owen) from pleistocene deposit, new south wales, Australia' might be published in Philosophical Transactions.
'Description of parts of a human skeleton from a pleistocene (palaeolithic) bed, Tilbury, Essex' is not recommended for publication. The results are 'well known to be fallacious'.
