Letter from Lionel Haworth, on a paper 'Asymptotic formulae for hypergeometric functions' by Thomas MacFarlane Cherry to D C Martin, Assistant Secretary of the Royal Society

Reference number: RR/72/53

Date: 03 April 1950

Description

He is working on a paper at the moment that will take up most of his time outside of his University duties. Has asked other journals for a respite from refereeing. The paper is 'undoubtedly a substantial contribution to the subject'. He cannot provide a full report at this time. Asks if it possible to 'escape with honour in the circumstances'.

[Published in Proceedings of the Royal Society A, 1950 with the title 'Asymptotic expansions for the hypergeometric functions occurring in gas-flow theory'].

Endorsed on recto as received 4 April 1950.
