Letter from Herbert Harold Read, on a paper 'Red sandstones. An experimental study of the conditions under which they may be formed' by Robert John Strutt, Lord Rayleigh to Alfred Charles Glyn Egerton
Reference number: RR/69/259
Date: 17 August 1945
Description
Despite his doubts, he has decided to bow to the 'superior chemical knowledge of the Chairman of the Chemistry Committee'. However, the title should be modified as 'the problem of the origin of the red sandstones is a very considerable geological one and Lord Rayleigh's communication hardly touches it'.
[Published in Proceedings of the Royal Society A, 1940 with the amended title 'Experimental production of red and yellow sandstones from chalybeate water'].
