Recommended for publication in the Philosophical Transactions of the Royal Society. Finds the introduction unnecessarily long, and suggests a statement for shortening it. Suggests removing the term 'synthetic' as the form used is organic. Suggests removing the chemical details for colchicine, and the detailed descriptions of anatomy and histology.

Contains extra question - 'Is there any information contained in the paper which likely to be of value to the enemy?' Referee replies no.
