Letter to George Frederick James Temple, from Alfred Charles Glyn Egerton, regarding a paper 'Two-dimensional boundary-value problems of elasticity' by Bibhutibhusan Sen
Reference number: RR/68/144
Date: 10 July 1945
Description
Sectional Committee: Engineering
A paper by Albert Edward Green was published in 1939, and another on a similar subject by Albert Edward Green and Geoffrey Ingram Taylor was withheld during the war for security reasons, and has now been released. When the current paper was submitted in November 1941, the referee thought that parts of the paper were already covered by the 1939 Albert Edward Green paper, but he may have been referring to the then-unpublished Albert Edward Green and Geoffrey Ingram Taylor paper, of which the author could have no knowledge. If the former, the relevant pats should be omitted, or reference made to the earlier paper; if the latter, it is only fair to publish the complete paper. Asks for his opinion on the matter.
Appended note, undated, by Alfred Charles Gly Egerton, asks Miss Boatwright to write to George Frederick James Temple, thanking him for his opinion, and that the current paper will now be accepted in full [RR/68/146]. Also, to let Richard Vynne Southwell know of this, and to ask if the paper should appear in the same volume as Albert Edward Green and Geoffrey Ingram Taylor's paper [RR/68/145].
