Letter from Kathleen Yardley Lonsdale, to William Henry Bragg, regarding three papers, 'Extra reflexions from the two types of diamond' by Kathleen Yardley Lonsdale, 'Reflexion and scattering of X-rays with change of frequency, I. Theoretical' and 'Reflexion and scattering of X-rays with change of frequency - II. Experimental' by Chandrasekhara Venkata Raman

Description

Sectional Committee: Not stated [Physics]

Criticises the work of Chandrasekhara Venkata Raman, and compares his results with her own. Her results have been published in Nature, along with photographic evidence. '...it seems to me that Raman ought to be informed of his mistake even if it does mean holding up the paper for some months. It would not be fair either to him or to the Royal Society to publish his work as it stands, because I can so easily refute it'. At present, due to equipment failure, experimental work is on hold, but future investigations are planned. Encloses a detailed response to the papers by Chandrasekhara Venkata Raman.

Associated note by Alfred Charles Glyn Egerton, to Winckworth, says that the papers by Chandrasekhara Venkata Raman should be followed with the response by Kathleen Yardley Lonsdale. Requests Chandrasekhara Venkata Raman's paper from William Henry Bragg, and agrees to slight modifications to wording in places.
