Letter from Marcus Laurence Elwin Oliphant, on a paper 'The electric structure of solid dielectrics in relation to the theory of electronic breakdown' by A E W Austen and S Whitehead to J D Griffith Davies, Assistant Secretary of the Royal Society

Reference number: RR/67/8

Date: 28 February 1940

Description

Sectional committee: [Physics]

He is in agreement with Mott that the paper could be published, so long as it is 'completely re-written', so that a proper balance between the theories and experimental work can be obtained. Although Mott thinks Seegar and Teller's theories are incorrect, they should still be mentioned.

[Published in Proceedings of the Royal Society A, 1940 as 'The electric strength of some solid dielectrics'].

Endorsed on verso as received 29 February 1940.
