Description

He has kept the author's proofs as he cannot find out where he is or how to communicate with him. His fiancee believes he is in Ottawa but it is 'certain that he is not allowed to communicate with his friends, since we have had no letters'. Asks if they can request the author's papers from the service departments as a lever to have him released or allowed to receive and correct his proofs. He has communicated with Winckworth to ask whether the Royal Society were applying for his release. The author is not on the Royal Society's lists and he was advised instead to ask the universities instead. However, he has learned from a univeristy vice-chancellor that the author's name is in a list held by the Royal Society - he hopes this is so.The author isn't a university teacher and is more of a research worker who spends some time teaching. He has gone through the proofs himself but they are of such a highly mathematical character that he would prefer for the author to look over them instead.
