Description

Recommended for publication in the 'Philosophical Transactions of the Royal Society'. The first part of the paper is off-topic, covering the author's experiments into crystalline bodies, extracted from a report in the Bristol Association for 1842, and extensive extracts from 'Report of the Commission on the Application of Iron to Railway Structures' for 1848. Suggests the author seriously reduce this first part of the paper, and provide reference to the full account instead.
