Letter from William Sharpey, to George Gabriel Stokes, regarding a paper 'Theoretical considerations on the conditions under which the (drift) deposits containing the remains of extinct mammalia and flint implements were accumulated, and on their geological age. - On the Loess of the valleys of the South of England, and of the Somme and the Seine' by Joseph Prestwich
Reference number: RR/5/211
Date: 15 August 1863
Description
Approves of the decisions made by George Gabriel Stokes. Describes Joseph Prestwich's paper as 'a regular fit [bit?] of the gravel'. Before the decision to colour the plates has been finalised, could he please ask the author whether the colours might not be replaced with varying characters of the black lines? Has a note from George Busk, to which he has responded, and asks that Busk respond to Stokes with his own comments. Assumes there is now 'quite enough copy for a Part'. Is leaving shortly for Scotland, where his address for the next eight days will be 'Professor Squires, Millbank, Edinburgh'.
