Not recommended for publication in the 'Philosophical Transactions of the Royal Society'. Refers to previous work by the author, and work by Henri Victor Regnault. The current paper appears to contradict the conclusion drawn in the previous paper. Considers the methods ingenious but not of great 'exactness'.
