Referee's report by Augustus George Vernon Harcourt, on a paper 'The evaporation of water in a current of air' by Edgar Philip Perman

Reference number: RR/16/91

Date: April 1903

Description

Sectional Committee: Physics and Chemistry

Recommended for publication in Proceedings, with perhaps the exception of the resume of previous work, pages 16-24. A reference to the papers of which an account is given would be enough and this would, he thinks, be enough to shorten the paper by a third. The apparatus and method of working are good. The results accord with those obtained from Regnault. It should be added that the author in calculating his results, needs to use the accepted figures for the tension of aqueous vapour at ordinary temperatures. There are a good many errors, especially in the transcription or typing of the French, which no doubt the author or editor will correct. The two figures should be reproduced. Some letters are omitted and some references to the letters in the text are wrong. One error in drawing should be corrected; 66 c.c. of water and 10 c.c. of sulphuric acid are shown as occupying the same space.
