Description

Sectional Committee: Botany

Recommended for publication in Philosophical Transactions. The authors might be asked to consider curtailing some of the very detailed descriptions on pages 17 and 34. All the illustrations should be reproduced but he would suggest that explanatory lettering be added to photograph one, plate one, and it may be possible to omit certain unessential portions of several of the figures so that the three plates of photographs might be reduced to two, and the four plates of drawings to three. In general Seward thinks the paper of exceptional importance and it may be described as by far the most illuminating contribution to the knowledge of terrestrial plants which has been made for many years. He does not wish to suggest any modifications which would lead to a loss of clearness, but is inclined to think by a closer arrangement of some of the figures and by cutting off portions which repeat, some reduction in the number of plates might be carefully considered.
