Description

Sectional Committee: Zoology

The paper so far as it relates to the development of Ornithoryhnchus should be published in the Philosophical Transactions. The paper should be published in part only; where the developmental stages are familiar there is no need for lengthy descriptions. As a contribution to embryological science, the paper would loose nothing if it were shortened by at least a half. The descriptions are too detailed in many cases and the discussions unduly prolonged, and both are most tedious in nearly all cases. The paper could be returned to the authors with the request to limit it to the description of the ornithological embryos and omit the account of the marsupial embryos. A certain number of the photographic figures might be omitted but on the whole, with regard to the value and rarity of the material, the authors have not made excessive demands. Lists figure numbers that seem unnecessary. Thinks the authors have erred in their interpretation of the structure called 'primitive know' in their gastular stage.
