Referee's report by Charles Vernon Boys, on a paper 'The amplitude of the minimum audible impulsive sound' by P E Shaw
Reference number: RR/16/386
Date: April 1905
Description
Sectional Committee: Physics and Chemistry
Recommended for publication in Proceedings. It is unduly long and he does not think it necessary to publish all five tables and observations; suggests omissions. The fifth part of the paper on large sound amplitudes is too vague. Suggests a very short statement of the extreme uncertainty of the data and of the general result. Queries if the author knows that he can see the amplitude at the open end of an organ pipe using a bunsen flame and dust. Does not know if the result as distinct from the mode of attack is of any great interest. Thinks the author has a tendency to do the same thing, each time a little better than before, leading to a multiplicity of papers.
