Description

Sectional Committee: Physics and Chemistry

Recommended for publication in Philosophical Transactions, including all the accompanying illustrations. Though the paper does not mark a distinct advancement of natural knowledge, it accumulates material and presents it in such a way as to render it likely that it may in future lead to such advancement. The author perhaps includes too much detail and does not seem to have a correct judgement as to the relative importance of the different matters entering into the discussion. Schuster explains why he thinks it better to publish the paper in full. On a personal note he asks that on page 173, line nine, the words "as he seems to allow himself" be omitted as Schuster has never made any such admission. Annotated in another hand that the author be asked to omit this.

[Published in the Philosophical Transactions A, 1904].
