Description

Sectional Committee: Physiology

Recommended for publication in Proceedings, rather than Philosophical Transactions. Records that the paper consists of two main sections. The first, on the measurements of the sectional areas of different portions of the spinal cord in a series of cross sections of the lower part of the cord in a monkey, has been carried out with great care and unusual accuracy. The results are of some interest but not of any special importance. The second part of the paper is concerned with the calculation of ratios and percentages based upon the measurements obtained in the first section and seems to him of little value. The minute and exhaustive consideration of the facts of a particular case is in large part mistaken labour. Langley lists the parts of the paper to be omitted and notes that the outlines of the sections of the cord should be reduced in size. Plate one is not worth reproducing as a colour plate but might appear as a block in the text.
