Not recommended for publication in Philosophical Transactions. It might be considered by the other referee or referees that there is a certain amount of valuable observation in anatomy and pathology concerning rare material, which might be deemed worthy of publication; and with such an opinion he should be disposed to agree, provided clearer and more succinct statements were made regarding the conclusions arrived at by the author. The paper appears to be a valuable thesis; but considerable revision would be necessary. The illustrations are very numerous and would probably cost a considerable sum of money to reproduce. The illustrations dealing with the abnormalities of the abdominal viscera are the least important. In general the paper is too long and he thinks it a question whether the 'Philosophical Transactions' are intended for the publication of large monographs dealing with anatomical and pathological subjects, in which the actual additions to knowledge are, for the most part, either based on somewhat uncertain premises or are not of fundamental importance. At the same time the paper contains descriptions of much valuable and rare anatomical material, on which a great amount of diligent work has been bestowed.
