Description

Sectional Committee: Zoology

Not recommended for publication in Philosophical Transactions based on Hickson's interpretation of Standing Order 42. He hopes the paper will be published in some other periodical. It is is a very careful, interesting and valuable contribution to cytology. The paper contains a store of valuable information which, so far as he can judge, is trust worthy and obtained by the most refined histological method. In the course of the description of cytological details the author refers to questions of controversy and arrives at conclusions which appear hardly justified by the study of one 'type' only. Hickson provides an example of such unjustified conclusions concerning spherules. The paper is really only a contribution to a discussion on very highly controversial cell problems. On pages 46 and 106 the author speaks of the conversion of the cytoplasm into metabolically inactive yolk spherules. This expression does not seem to be supported by any evidence in the paper or cytological literature unless the word 'cytoplasm' is used in an unusual sense.
