Description

Sectional Committee: Zoology

Recommended for publication in Philosophical Transactions as the paper constitutes a material advance in their knowledge of the placenta.

It is loosely written and he thinks it could with advantage be compressed in certain places. Certainly the abstract should be omitted. The style of the paper leaves much to be desired. It is difficult to say whether this is due to carelessness or a 'feeble power of descriptive expression' on the part of the author. Cites page 38 as an example. The paper must be thoroughly revised from this point of view. At the same time he had no difficulty in making out the meaning of the author and in following his argument. He does not think all the illustrations should be reproduced, or all the figures, and the number might be cut down to one half or even one third. The weeding out ought to be left to the author. Figures 35 could not be found and there is a confusion in the text in connection with the numbers given to the figures illustrating the Hyrax placenta. No general remarks given.
