Referee's report by Horace Lamb, on a paper 'The seismic effect of tidal stresses' by by Richard Dixon Oldham
Reference number: RR/16/218
Date: May 1904
Description
Sectional Committee: Physics and Chemistry
Recommended for publication in Philosophical Transactions in full. Modification is not discussed. All the illustrations should be printed in the text. The author concludes that there is a distinct solar influence, best referred to solar tides. The influence is not very pronounced and various points in the reasoning are open to criticism but the labour spent in the research and the ingenious way in which the conclusions are stated, entitle the paper to publication. Thinks the paper may stimulate research in the problem. A weak point acknowledged by the author is that no corresponding lunar influence can be detected.
Though not long, the paper is longer than those recently published in the Proceedings.
