The Committee should defer publication until the complete results of the expedition have been handed in. The paper does not contain the results of the principal instruments; prismatic cameras, taken out by the expedition. Some observations of shadow bands are of interest but the results have already been published in abstract in the Proceedings.

When declaring his willingness to act as a referee to this paper, he did so under the impression that this would only prove to be a matter of form and that the results of an important expedition should, as a matter of course, be printed in the Transactions. If he is obliged to make a different recommendation it is under the strong conviction that it is not to the credit of the Society or the Eclipse Expedition that the minor observations should be put together and printed separately, while the chief results of the expedition are reserved for subsequent publication. There is nothing in the paper which cannot wait until the results of the prismatic camera have been handed in. Efforts should be made as soon as possible to obtain the results of the prismatic cameras. Should the delay be too great, his judgement as to deferring the paper might be modified.
