Referee's report by John Newport Langley, on a paper 'The restoration of co-ordinated movements after nerve crossing with interchange of function of the cerebral cortical centres' by Robert Kennedy
Reference number: RR/15/74
Date: 19 December 1900
Description
Sectional committee: Physiology
Recommended for publication in Philosophical Transactions. Experiment one should be omitted as it is an unsuccessful trial experiment and the only result obtained is well known. Experiment four should be omitted unless the author can explain a particular point which Langley describes. In experiment six the previous history of the case, operative procedure, and account of the wound healing should be omitted. Figures one, four, and nine to twelve should be reproduced. Suggests an additional sketch in place of figure two and notes figures nine to twelve should be reduced to form one plate.
The paper suffers from its form, it is diffuse, statements are repeated unnecessarily and inconclusive results are inserted instead of being omitted. However the subject is important and the results of experiments two, three and six mark a distinct advance.
[Published in Philosophical Transactions B, 1901].
