Letter from Charles Vernon Boys, on a paper 'A portable telemeter, or range-finder' by G Forbes to Joseph Larmor
Reference number: RR/15/337
Date: 19 April 1902
Description
Sectional committee: not stated.
Apologises that he did not succeed in getting the enclosed Society of Arts pages sooner [not attached]. They contain all in the Royal Society paper that made him think it should be published. The double reflection prisms and the consequences following are the real point. They of course are equally applicable to the Zeiss instrument. As Larmor found the mathematical part of the paper doubtful, he does not see that there is any possible reason for printing the paper in the Proceedings, 'i.e. of course if the Soc. Arts. publication is prior to his R. Soc. d.o.d.'.
Annotated by Larmor that this matter should be referred to the Physics Committee, and in the meantime the paper should be kept back from press.
