Referee's report by Charles Vernon Boys, on a paper 'A portable telemeter, or range-finder' by G Forbes
Reference number: RR/15/336
Date: 01 March 1902
Description
Sectional Committee: not stated.
The paper is an improvement on the one before. The great defect has now been entirely removed and the paper ought to be published in full in the Proceedings with the two illustrations. Suggests the insertion of a diagram showing the use of the collimator as the description given is not very clear. The descriptions of the tests at the end read rather like testimonials in a trade circular, but he thinks that in the present instance they are justified as they supply just the information which anyone interested in the subject wishes to know, and which so often cannot be obtained. If the four double reflection prisms used are new for this purpose, their introduction in the place of single reflecting surfaces and the removal of the object glasses to a position between the eyes and the base, represent improvements upon previous instruments of great value. This could not have been divined from the previous note.
