Recommended for publication in Philosophical Transactions, in full. It will be necessary to ask the author to add references to prior work on the subject. All the illustrations should be reproduced. It is a good piece of original work and has no doubt the author is familiar with other work on the same subject such as that of Schuster, Muller and Kolliker, but nowhere does he quote or refer to it. There may also be more recent work with which he is not acquainted.
