Description

Sectional Committee: Physics and Chemistry

Recommended for publication in Philosophical Transactions, in full. Suggests a general table of densities at different strengths and temperatures be calculated. A similar table for sulphuric acid solutions has proved useful to several workers. The illustrations in part one, curves one to seven do not help the author's conclusions and lay him open to considerable criticism. An illustration of the whole of the figure for the contractions is certainly required. Suggests a replacement figure. If this suggestion is not adopted a small illustration of the full figure should be given, and of the existing figures, he would recommend that curve one be omitted, that curves three, four and five be shown in the same figure, that one curve be established for six and seven, and that an illustration of the contractions from 80 to 100 percent be given. He does not think that the author has sufficient evidence for all the changes of curvature which he shows, and differs materially from him as to the author's view respecting the general rectilinear character of the figures.
