Description

Sectional Committee: Physiology

The results do not embody any new principle and they are hardly of sufficient importance to warrant publication in Philosophical Transactions. The paper should be published in full but that it is too long and the results obtained might be given in half the space. All the illustrations should be reproduced.
The paper consists practically of two parts. Firstly an investigation of the effects of temperature on the vessel wall, which confirms results already obtained by other observers. Secondly, the effects of tension on the arterial wall. This part is the most important as it clears up a number of discrepancies between the results of previous workers and shows that these were due to a failure to discriminate between the behaviours of contracted and relaxed blood vessels when subjected to gradually increasing internal tension.
