Referee's report by John Scott Haldane, on a paper 'The action of the spurge (Euphorbia hiberna, L.) on salmonoid fishes' by H M Kyle
Reference number: RR/15/207
Date: September 1901
Description
Sectional Committee: Physiology
Recommended for publication in the Proceedings, rather than 'Philosophical Transactions, as the conclusions established are very incomplete in many respects. Has indicated in the margin of the original manuscript the parts of the paper that should be omitted as well as the parts requiring modification. Considerable condensation would be an improvement, and a summary of the ascertained facts should be added at the end of the paper. Though most valuable information is contained in the paper, the chemical analysis of the spurge extract is very incomplete and the chief poisonous constituent or constituents has not been identified with any certainty. Explains why he does not think tannic acid is the chief cause of the poisonous action of the spurge.
