Referee's report by William Napier Shaw, on a paper 'The behaviour of oxyhaemoglobin' by Arthur Gamgee
Reference number: RR/15/193
Date: 10 July 1901
Description
Sectional Committee: not stated.
Found this paper at the office today, after a few days absence. The electrolytic part is of no great value and the conclusion drawn from it may, as the author himself appears to be aware, not bear the test of closer investigation. The whole object of including it in the paper seems to be to ensure an opening for the suggestion that the diamagnetism of the blood compound containing iron is to be accounted for by the iron forming part of an electronegative[?] radicle. If the author were a young and inexperienced man, he would advise the electrolytic part being withdrawn in his own interest but the author does not require that kind of consideration, and the conclusions are so carefully guarded and marked as provisional that no one will be misled by the incompleteness of the experimental work. Explains why he recommends printing as the paper stands.
