Description

Sectional committee: [Physics and chemistry].

He has read the sentence in the manuscript which it is proposed to prefix to the paper in which reference is made to a resemblance between his effects described by Bose and the electromotive phenomena observed in his excitable structures of plants and animals. In the experiment first described which shows a superficial resemblance to a physiological experiment on the 'E.M.' properties of muscle or nerve, the conditions are different and the duration of the so called response is at least a hundred times as long in the case of muscle, and much more in the case of nerve. It is moreover in the opposite direction, the action current flowing 'to' instead of 'from' the excito part. In short there is no resemblance between the two experiments except such as are due to the form given to the apparatus.

If the paper is published, nothing should appear excepting the authors observations on the electromotive properties of certain metals, and whatever physical explanation he may be able to give of them. Cannot give an opinion on publication.
