Referee's report by John Scott Haldane, on a paper 'The fermentation of urea; a contribution to the study of the chemistry of the metabolism in bacteria' by Walter Ernest Adeney

Reference number: RR/15/144

Date: 24 June 1901

Description

Sectional committee: Physiology

Not recommended for publication in Philosophical Transactions. He criticises the lack of experimental proof for the conclusions drawn by the author. The conclusions are based on an assumption, and could equally be interpreted in another manner which he outlines. He further states that the author's method of working with an unknown mixture of micro-organisms and enzymes is unlikely to lead to useful results. He does not doubt the care taken, but does not think the paper is worthy of publication.
