Referee's report by William Bateson, on a paper 'Mathematical contributions to the theory of evolution. IX. On the principle of homotyposis and its relation to heredity. Part I. Homotyposis in the vegetable kingdom' by Karl Pearson
Reference number: RR/15/100
Date: 15 November 1900
Description
Sectional committee: Zoology
Not recommended for publication in Philosophical Transactions in its present form. The point elucidated in the paper is of high interest but the conception as defined by Pearson of average homotypic correlation as a value which has an objective existence in nature and is capable of determination, is based on a fallacy. The question raised is complex and he cannot briefly make his meaning clear but has set out the difficulty at length in the accompanying manuscript [not attached], which the Committee is at liberty to communicate to Pearson or anyone else.
[Published in Philosophical Transactions A, 1901].
