Description

Plate 20 showing 31 views of fossilised teeth from a variety of animals, some not identified, discovered at Kirkdale Cave, Yorkshire [England]. Artworks are pasted onto three separate backing sheets, each in turn pasted together. The work is inscribed with publication and plate details. Artist names are noted at the top of the backing sheet and figure 1 is initialled 'M.M. 1822'. Royal Society stamp verso. The manuscript for this paper is wanting.

Subject: Palaeontology

Published in Philosophical Transactions as part of paper titled 'Account of an assemblage of fossil teeth and bones of elephant, rhinoceros, hippopotamus, bear, tiger, and hyæna, and sixteen other animals; discovered in a cave at Kirkdale, Yorkshire, in the year 1821: with a comparative view of five similar caverns in various parts of England, and others on the continent' by William Buckland.

Read to the Royal Society on 21 February 1822.
