Description

Plate 15 containing two figures showing part of the skull (with paddle, vertebrae, and other bones) with the jaws of the same specimen of ichthyosaur, collected by Mary Anning at Lyme Regis [Dorset, England]. Everard Home's essay states, 'Such has been the exertion made by persons employed by Colonel [Thomas James] Birch, to explore the cliffs at Lyme, in search of fossil organic remains, from an expectation that they will receive the full reward of their labours...' The work is inscribed with publication and plate details. Not signed. Royal Society stamp verso.

Subject: Palaeontology

Published in Philosophical Transactions as part of paper titled 'On the mode of formation of the canal for containing the spinal marrow, and on the form of the fins (if they deserve that name) of the Proteosaurus' by Everard Home.

Read to the Royal Society on 4 May 1820.
