Description

Plate 8 containing an anatomical study of the uterus of a woman. The painting is taken from the body of an anonymous 21-year old servant maid who died on 15 January 1817, according to William Clift, in a very early stage of pregnancy. The work is inscribed with publication and plate details. Signed lower left 'Franz Bauer del:'. Royal Society stamp verso. Watermarked 'J Whatman 1804'.

Published in Philosophical Transactions as part of paper titled 'On the passage of the ovum from the ovarium to the uterus in women' by Everard Home.

Read to the Royal Society on 1 May 1817.
