Description

Plate 8, figures 2-5 showing a comparison of the gripping anatomies of lizards, flies, and Echineis remora, the suckerfish. Five drawings in total with a duplicate version of the final figure 1. The original figure numbers have been scored through after the addition of the eventual figure 4, pasted onto the sheet. Figures 4-5 are copied by Clift from earlier works by G Adams (1746) and Christofle Keller (1766). The painting is inscribed above with publication and plate details. Not signed. Royal Society stamp verso.

Published in Philosophical Transactions as part of paper titled 'Some account of the feet of those animals whose progressive motion can be carried on in opposition to gravity' by Everard Home.

Read to the Royal Society on 22 February 1816.
