Description

The first of two volumes containing the manuscript versions of papers I-XVII published by the Royal Society in volume 139 of Philosophical Transactions in 1849.

The volume also includes some original illustrations and figures in various media (drawings, watercolours) in support of the papers.

Missing from this volume are manuscripts for the following papers:
'On the development and homologies of the carapace and plastron of the chelonian reptiles' by Richard Owen; and
'Contributions to terrestrial magnetism.— No. IX' by Edward Sabine.
