Description

The authors write: 'When investigating the sounds produced by skeletal muscle when caused to contract at varying rates by electric stimulation, we were thoroughly convinced that a single contraction produced by a single induction shock gave rise to an audible sound of somewhat the same character as the first sound of the heart.'
