Description

Eleven volumes of scientific letters and papers from various authors containing accounts, observations and theories covering a wide variety of subjects and disciplines. Sent to the Royal Society for discussion and possible publishing. Some items feature original artwork, figures and tables. The coverage of the volumes that make up decade 7 is as follows:

Volume 61: item numbers 1-31, read 8 January 1778 - 2 April 1778
Volume 62: item numbers 32-50, read 2 April 1778 - 25 June 1778
Volume 63: item numbers 51-78, read 25 June 1778 - 24 December 1778
Volume 64: item numbers 79-119, read 14 January 1779 - 24 June 1779
Volume 65: item numbers 120-145, read 11 November 1779 - 24 February 1780
Volume 66: item numbers 146-171a, read 2 March 1780 - 5 June 1780
Volume 67: item numbers 172-195, read 9 November 1780 - 26 April 1781
Volume 68: item numbers 196-218, 26 April 1781 - 5 July 1781
Volume 69: item numbers 219-246, read 8 November 1781 - 21 March 1782
Volume 70: item numbers 247-263, read 18 April 1782 -20 June 1782
Volume 70a: item numbers 264-272, a few papers of 1776 and 1778 - 1782

The dates given correspond to the date that the papers were written/sent by the author. The read date in the description indicates when papers were read at a Royal Society meeting.

Each volume contains a list of contents which provides: a document reference number, author, title, extent, date of reading to the Society and place of publication in the 'Philosophical Transactions' as far as could be determined for each item.
