Autograph letter signed by sender. Delayed answering his letter until he had carried out the observations upon pure Colophene. Gives the results of his experiments. H. E. Sainte-Claire Deville's original account is in Annales de chimie, vol. 75. Council of the Royal Society [of London] recommended Edward Sabine to be the new Foreign Secretary.
