Description

Copy of letter, copied as part of the correspondence project led by Colonel John Herschel FRS following the death of his father. Has called special meeting of Physical Committee to discuss Spencer J.A. Compton's response to R.S.L.'s proposal to establish permanent observatory. Expresses John Frederick William Herschel's opinion and recommends temporary observatory instead. Keep this issue separate from funding for publication of present observations.
