Paper, computation of the Sun and Moon from the Philolaick tables by Ismael Bullialdus

Reference number: CLP/8i/27

Date: 15 June 1671

Description

This appears to be a paper by Ismaël Boulliau [also spelt Bullialdus] (1605-1694) which includes a table of philolaic calculations of solar and lunar motions. Boulliau had compared the eclipse of Spica Virginis on 22 April 1671 (N.S.) with the tables in his Astronomia Philoloaica (1645), with Kepler's Rudolphine Tables and with Hevelius's calculated positions. This paper was read at the meeting of the Royal Society on 15 June 1671. According to a letter by Henry Oldenburg to Johannes Hevelius on 12 June 1671, this computation had been sent by Boulliau to Hevelius.
